8 STEPS TO DECLUTTER YOUR HOME OFFICE

1. Figure Out Exactly What You Need

For this step, you are going to want to pay attention to every single thing that you use for the next few weeks. This way when you finish this short little experiment you are going to have a list of all the things that you actually use in your office on a regular basis.

These are the things that you should definitely keep because you need them. All the other things are things that you should dispose of. Because the chances are that you are not going to use them often, if at all.

2. Schedule a Regular Cleaning Session

The best way to make sure that your office remains clean and clutter-free is to actually sit down and schedule a regular cleaning session at least once a week. This is your time where you make sure that everything gets cleaned up.

And, the beautiful thing about a cleanup schedule is that you will no longer have any excuses. Instead, you will simply know that when the time comes you have to stop what you are doing and get cleaning, just like you would do anything else.

3. Get Rid of Stuff

If you’ve done step one then you will know exactly what things you need to keep and exactly what things you need to get rid of. Now comes the step where you are going to have to either throw away or donate all the things that you don’t need in your office. Have no mercy, if you don’t need it, get rid of it. Here are some tips to help you out…

We live in a digital age. And so it means that a lot of the papers you have lying around your office can be scanned and kept in a digital format. This will result in you saving a ton of space by getting rid of all the paper clutter you have around your office.

Your next step is to get rid of all the junk that you got for free, like pens you don’t use, and anything else that you absolutely never use. It’s all junk and it has to go straight in the bin!

These days we live in a tech revolution and have access to really incredible things such as an all-in-one printer and scanner. This means that you can replace two items (the printer and scanner) with one new item which will help you save space and have less clutter.

4. Consider Your Home Office Options

Now that you’ve decluttered and got rid of all the junk that was lying around the office, your next job is to think about the layout of your office. This would be a good opportunity to optimize the space you are in and fine-tune things to really get the most of the space that you are working with. You have almost unlimited options here, so you should definitely experiment and try different layouts until you find something that works for you.

5. Get What You Need

Once your layout is sorted the next step is to get out there and start shopping for everything that you want and need for your office. This is a good time to really express yourself and buy some personal things such as photo frames and whatever else you think of. Don’t feel you have to be boring and mundane and get the same things as everyone else. Go out there and be a little adventurous and get storage containers in the color of your choice. After all, this is your home office so it’s your chance to decorate it in a fashion that suits you.

6. Time to Clean Up

It’s time to put on your cleaning gloves and scrub, scrub and scrub some more until your whole office is super clean, top to bottom.

7. Put Things Away

Alright, so now you have sorted out everything you want to keep in your office and at the same time, everything has been cleaned up. So, your next task is to take all the things you have and put them where they should be. In the future, you should also put everything back in the place when you finish using it. This way you will be able to keep everything clean and tidy with practically no effort!

8. Finish Up

Now that your office is decluttered and super clean, it’s time to add your stamp on the home office. Add some finishing touches to give it that extra special feeling. You could set out a vase of fresh flowers and replacing them every week. Or, perhaps you hang a beautiful painting or some sort of artwork that really expresses who you are as a person. The choice really is yours.

Final Thoughts on an Organized Home Office

Alrighty! If you’ve followed the steps then you’ll have a completely transformed your office space in a way that makes you feel great. However, this is just the beginning because if you want to keep it this way you are going to have to put in some work.

Don’t worry this doesn’t mean doing anything extensive. All you have to do is every week schedule some time to declutter and clean up your office. Now that your office is nice and clean this shouldn’t be much of a task and if you are able to do this consistently then you’ll be able to keep a beautiful office that you love coming to every single morning.
