6 Interior Design Trends To Watch Out For In 2018

Today’s Tuesday Guest Post is by Clarissa Caouette who is kind enough to share with us the 6 Interior Design trends to watch out for in 2018. My goodness, it’s coming at us like a freight train! Clarissa is an Interior Designer on the rise! I hope we get to see her designs in the home decor magazines soon!

As 2017 slowly makes its way out the door, new trends are starting to emerge and hints of 2018 are threatening to engulf everyday life. Sure, we have a few months before we really starting bringing in the new year, but when it comes to trends, it’s always good to be ahead of the game.

When it comes to the current generation of homeowners, also known as millennials, certain things have more appeal than others. Location is one factor that can make or break a sale when it comes to home buying or building. Public parks, recreational areas and alternative forms of transportation are a big asset to the current market. As is ample outdoor space, pet-friendly neighborhoods and close distance to a store or coffee shop.

Put these facts into play, and you might already have an idea of where 2018 is going.

Green and Gold

Try pairing an avocado green shade with a harvest gold hue. This brings the favored avocado into use while giving a nod towards Autumn. Sounds nice, right? It creates a nice-looking design while giving your place a calm, welcoming atmosphere. For example, you could paint the walls green, and use gold accents in your rug or furniture choices.

Although this trend was extremely popular during the 1970’s, it’s gaining momentum again. So if you haven’t decorated or updated your house since then, you’re actually already ahead of the trend!

Geometric Patterns

This gold geometric backsplash is right on trend for 2018. It also incorporates that gold accent color  – on point!

Creating a home that’s aesthetically pleasing, but also livable means having some sort of
structure. By incorporating patterns throughout your home, you can express artistic techniques with simple lines and geometric designs like triangles.

You can use this sort of pattern on your kitchen’s backsplash, wallpaper in your dining room, bathroom or wall art. Starting with an accent rug, pillows or throws could be a good idea to test out your decor.

Typography

The typography trend rages on in 2018.

For a while now, home goods with little messages inscribed on them have been popular. Pillows with words like “Life is Beautiful” or framed art proclaiming “Coffee First” have been all the rage. Most likely, the signs point to the continuation of this trend as 2018 gets closer. With the way communication has branched into text messages and internet memes, it’s only natural for people to include typography in their designs. Keeping it as a way to tell a room’s story, rather than overpowering the decor will add to your home’s space.

Wood Materials

Warm wood tones add character in this space. Gleaming floors and a lofted hardwood ceiling make this a coveted bedroom.

With technology’s constant stimulation, sometimes you just need a little natural in your life. That’s where mixing wood materials throughout your design comes in. This could be a naturally carved wooden bowl for your fruit in the kitchen or a repurposed ladder for hanging towels and clothes in the bathroom. It doesn’t have to stop there! Your

It doesn’t have to stop there! Your bed frame, sitting options, and tables are all great ways to include wood in your home. Using wood, especially reused pieces, can create a more environmentally friendly abode, which is definitely in the minds of trend-setters.

Metallic Furnishings

A warm copper metallic lamp warms up a neutral space.

If you aren’t one for the natural look, and you need a bit of sparkle as well, try metallics. This trend is guaranteed to carry over into next year and is no longer considered risky to include in your interior design. Since metallics take a more dominant role (they are very shiny), try offsetting a traditionally designed sofa with a metal side table. You could add some DIY flair by hand-painting metallic elements on fabrics and art pieces. A pillow laced with gold thread or a lamp that’s painted gold could add that finishing touch.

Oversized Furniture

This oversized couch invites you to stay and sit a while. Notice the typography artwork in the background?

More often than not, new homeowners are tending to look at space available rather than the design of furniture pieces. With comfort yet elegance at the top of the list, you can bet on seeing some large sofas around. Larger chairs and couches mean modern day meets antique. Much of the furniture in previous years has resembled a boxy feel, but let’s get away from that.

Much of the furniture in previous years has resembled a boxy feel, but let’s get away from that. You don’t need to overcrowd your space, minimalism is still a thing, but you do want the hypothetical typography on your throw pillows to say “Sit Here!” not “Go Away”.
Whatever design route you choose, you’ll be living in style.
