4 Excellent Options for Adding Space to Your House

Whether you’re looking to increase the value of the home by increasing the square footage, you’re trying to prepare for a growing family, or you simply feel like it’s a little claustrophobic at the moment, adding space to your home’s interior is a project that will take some investment no matter what.

However, you might not have to spend as much time or money as you think.

4 Ways of Adding Space to Your Home

Here, we’re going to look at some of your options and the benefits that they allow for.

1 – Get rid of a wall

One of the easiest ways to add a little space to a home that feels a little too small is to remove an interior wall. Typically, this is usually done between shared spaces, such as getting rid of the wall between the hallway and the living room or creating an open plan home by getting rid of the wall between the kitchen and the living room. You just need to make sure that the wall you want to demolish isn’t crucial to the home’s structural integrity, first and foremost.

2 – Remodel the kitchen

One of the rooms which has enough space is most crucial is in the kitchen. As such, remodeling the kitchen can include things like rearranging the worktops, adding central islands, so you take up less wall space, and so on. Take a look at this post to see some of your options for remodeling the kitchen. It can be especially great at adding space if you have an open plan home and the kitchen is currently taking up a lot of it.

3 – Finish a space

Some spaces might be perfectly suitable for adding an entirely new room onto the house if only they were liveable. This website talks about finishing and converting spaces that already exist in the home, such as the basement, the attic, or the garage. The attic typically tends to be the easiest and least expensive, as it usually doesn’t have as many problems with humidity and dampness as places like the basement does. However, if that isn’t an option, then finishing one of the other rooms can be quite a sizeable investment.

4 – Add on to it

When it comes to adding space to the home, the most costly and demanding option is to build it on as an addition. Of course, it’s also the option with the most potential since you can add any kind of purpose-built space that you like. However, even if you do have the budget for the extension of your dreams, you need to check with both your local building regulations to see if you need a permit, as well as any local housing or neighborhood associations that might have grounds to complain. As such, you must be ready to deal with some red tape and even to have your plans rejected outright.

The Takeaway on Adding Space to Your Home

Which of the options above will work best for you? That decision will largely depend on how much space you need and the kind of budget you can put towards it. Consider your needs and see what works best.
