4 Common Sense Ways to Keep Bugs Away and Enjoy Your Backyard

As the weather is getting warmer, more and more homeowners are wondering how to make the most of their backyard. A beautiful garden can be an invitation to relax for the whole family! Unfortunately, there can seemingly be no casual lunch outside without having to fend off bugs.

As an amateur gardener, you know that not all bugs are bad. Some are detrimental to maintaining the ecosystem. However, others can ruin your day out. As a result, the most sensitive family members are often forced to stay indoors to avoid serving as a feast for mosquitos. Additionally, children and people with a compromised immune system are cautious about Lyme disease and other bug-related infections they could accidentally catch while taking a stroll in the garden. How can you best keep pests at bay without putting your family and pets at risk?

4 Easy Ways to Keep Bugs at Bay

Try these tips to tell insects to bug off.

1 – Keep your lawn trimmed

It might sound silly, but a trimmed lawn can dramatically reduce the pest infestation in your garden. If you’re going to spend a lot of time eating outside and lounging in the sun, you need to make sure you’ve got a reliable lawn mower for the job. People who have a large garden prefer gas-powered mowers that are easy to use and can power through uneven terrain without any issues. But, if you’ve got a small front yard, an electric mower is just as effective. Do make sure to avoid flowers and bushes that can be a home for the local wildlife.

2 – Look out for the best repellent

There is a variety of bug repellents around. If you’re using potent sprays, such as the products U-Spray Bugspray.com, you need to be careful about your pets. You should also lock the pets indoors before spraying and only release them once you’re entirely sure that the area is safe. For common pests, such as mosquitos, citronella candles can be a game-changer.

3 – Grow natural repellents

Can your garden plants fight off pests? The answer is yes. You can keep bugs off your property with plants that act as a natural repellent. Marigolds can be a great alternative to the citronella candle if you don’t like the smell of citronella. Use them in flower beds by the front door, and you’ll have the most peaceful times! Lavender bushes can also keep mosquitos at bay.

If you are worried about ticks, Chrysanthemums can deter them along with other bugs, which makes the elegant flower an all-time fall favorite.

4 – Don’t leave food outside

Why do bugs come to your garden? The answer is simple. Because that’s where they find food. If you tend to forget leftovers on the garden table, you’re virtually inviting ants, wasps, and other bugs. Keep your garden furniture clean and free of crumbs to reduce the presence of pests. Another good tip for people who love BBQ in summer is to eat the food as soon as it’s off the grill. The longer you let it stand, the more likely it’s going to attract unwanted bugs.

The Bottom Line: You Can Rid Your Garden of Bugs with These Tricks

Managing garden bugs isn’t easy. As an amateur gardener, you want to enjoy your front yard without putting your family at risk. Therefore, it’s a good idea to have a strategy in place to avoid bug infestations.
