An Easy Method to Lose the Clutter Once and For All

Can’t see the forest for the trees? You might now realize that you need to lose the clutter.

We’re all a little guilty of holding onto things for longer than we need them. What if you’re out shopping and see something that you love but really don’t have space for? Clutter happens to the best of people. It can happen over time. But if you do not deal with it eventually, the situation can become entirely too overwhelming. It can grow to the extent that you don’t know where to start. 

Whether it’s part of an effort to downsize or you just want to live an easier, more simplified life, tackling the decluttering of your whole house is a big job. 

If you’re at the stage where you don’t know what to do as part of your decluttering efforts, keep reading some of these handy tips to help you get the job done and start living.  It’s time to embrace minimalism and lose the unsightly clutter.

Take One Thing At A Time

When you look through your home with corners filled with things that have no place and mess everywhere, the job can feel a little too much to do alone. However, that doesn’t mean that it is impossible. 

Focus on one thing at a time and compile a list of what to do. For example, if you start in the bedroom, the first thing you’ll want to do is to make your bed. A made bed gives an overall more tidy appearance to the bedroom. Plus, it also acts as a large surface for you to go through some of your belongings to sort them out. 

Next, pick up items from the floor. Place garbage in trash bags and start to find places for the things you want to keep. 

Create an order of things and complete one job fully before you move on to the next space. Give yourself a reasonable time limit that doesn’t pile on the pressure but also prevents procrastination from taking over. 

Lose The Clutter By Sorting It Out Once And For All

Creating piles for your belongings will help you assess what you have, what you want to keep, and what you want to get rid of by selling, donating, or throwing away if items cannot be salvaged. 

Use large baskets for general household items and something like a portable storage box for larger items such as furniture that doesn’t have a proper place in your home at the moment.

Sort items into boxes, bags, or baskets for the following:

  • Things to put away: The items that have found their way out of where they should be kept, such as water glasses in the bedroom or clothes in the living room.
  • Things to sell: Items that you come across that you no longer need but will still be worth money. This could be clothing with labels still attached, technology that still has some use, or barely used kitchen equipment. 
  • Items to donate: This basket is for the things you no longer need but can imagine another person or charitable organization making good use of. 
  • Trash/Recycling: remember to recycle what you can/what your local community has guidelines for. Some things beyond repair just need to be trashed, but try to keep these to a minimum.
