Coffee Facial Scrub Gives You Glowing Skin in 4 Easy Steps

Many around the world consider women with glowing skin among the most beautiful, regardless of other attributes. Is this Coffee Facial Scrub one of their best-kept beauty secrets?

I don’t know. But if they do use this facial scrub, that might certainly explain it!

Mixing up a batch of this treat for your skin once a week can help you shed dead, flaky skin and nourish its cells.

One batch of this face scrub makes enough to scrub your face, hands, and entire body. I suggest exfoliating from your face to your toes, then hopping into a nice, warm shower. You will feel great after you wake up your skin with caffeine!

How the Four Ingredients in this Homemade Coffee Face Scrub Benefit Your Skin

This product is really effective, here is why.

Ground Organic Coffee:

The journal Antioxidants published a study in April of 2020 notes that organic coffee contains phenolic antioxidants.

The study goes on to state that this provides “chemo-protective effects, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, and anticancer activity.”

Antioxidants fight free radicals, airborne pollutants that can cause premature aging, weaken the cellular structure, and may cause certain kinds of cancer.

In addition, your skin can absorb the caffeine present in the coffee via this topical application. The caffeine wakes up your skin and gives it a refreshed appearance.

I use organic fresh ground coffee, medium grind, for the most potent fragrance.

Why organic?

Granted, you don’t have to use organic products to fix a batch of this beauty treatment. I do.

Here’s why.

Organic products receive special certification, proving them free of chemicals. Think pesticides, fertilizers, and other chemicals some farms use.

If you have sensitive skin, acne, eczema, or dermatitis, you definitely want to go the organic route.

Organic Brown Sugar:

Organic brown sugar serves as a natural exfoliating agent that helps remove dry, flaky cells that make your skin appear dull.

Additionally, brown sugar naturally delivers a small amount of glycolic acid to your skin.

Glycolic acid helps to smooth away wrinkles, improves the texture, and evens out tone.

Sunflower Oil:

Adding sunflower oil to the facial scrub is safe for all skin types. It is non-comedogenic, meaning it does not clog pores. Even if you have acne-prone or oily skin, this adds moisture without causing breakouts.

The key component is linoleic acid. It restores elasticity, eases wrinkles, and restores balance in the skin barrier. Better yet, it does all this without causing acne breakouts.

Plain Greek Yogurt:

Greek yogurt contains probiotics, microorganisms that nourish the skin. This healthy bacteria calms redness, repairs the skin barrier, and fights premature signs of aging.

Many with acne or rosacea rely on this ingredient to help rebalance their complexion.

Why You Must Exfoliate Your Skin Regularly

Besides regular daily facial cleansing, you should remove the dead skin cells from your skin’s surface layer by exfoliating. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, the frequency you must exfoliate depends on the following:

  • Your skin type – Oily, combination (normal), or dry skin. Most people with combination skin benefit from a twice per week treatment.
  • The vigor of your scrub – The process we are describing is “manual exfoliation,” don’t rub too hard, or you can cause redness or irritation.
  • Your skin’s appearance – flaky, dry skin needs more frequent attention than oily skin. Most people fall somewhere in the middle.

In other words, you won’t find a right or wrong answer. You’ll make a little bit of trial and error to find a custom solution for your needs.

Note: if you have a skin condition, it’s worth a call to your dermatologist before trying any new products, including this one.

When Exfoliating Occurs in the Skincare Regime

Some people wonder when they should exfoliate in the skincare regime.

Here are the ingredients for the coffee scrub.

Here is a well-documented skincare routine you can follow:

  • Remove makeup with a makeup-removing product that breaks the bond between your skin and the products. This step is significant if you use “long-wearing” makeup.
  • Cleanse the skin with a product for your skin type. This is a separate step from makeup removal.
  • Prepare your coffee face scrub from fresh ingredients.
  • Exfoliate using the Coffee Scrub. Rinse well.
  • Use your favorite serum or skincare oil suited to your type.
  • Moisturize to rehydrate and rebalance after the exfoliation.

Also, note that it’s normal to have a little bit of pink or red tone after exfoliating. It typically “calms” in about thirty minutes.

Editorial Note:

I personally tested this recipe (provided to me by a friend) before I shared it. If I may… I suggest these easy modifications if you wish.

Let the yogurt warm up to room temperature for about 10 minutes. It was very cold!

I added 10 drops of peppermint essential oil. It improved the aroma (it smelled like peppermint mocha!). Also, it felt refreshing on my oily skin. Research which essential oils are safe for your specific skin type before adding any to your treatment.
